5 Tips to Style a Cardigan Sweater

The word cardigan makes me think of an old style sweater or piece of drab clothing my high school teachers used to wear. You know the ones who kept a sweater draped over their shoulder as they taught algebra.   Boy, have cardigans come along way and believe it or not, they are actually considered a trendy piece of clothing that is now a must-have in any closet.  Have no fear there are many ways to wear a cardigan and still keep your ‘cool’ factor.

Cardigans are great this time of year.  They are perfect for the transition of Winter into Spring and if you are like me, I carry a light weight cardigan even in the Summer because restaurants seem to be a bit chilly, especially if I am wearing a sleeveless top or tank.

I am sure you have tons of cardigans in your closet but just aren’t quite sure how to style them.  We have pulled together 5 Tips to help you style those cardigans in your closet.

Pop of Color

If you are wearing a basic dress, say in black, you can always add a brightly colored cardigan for a pop of color to break up the monotony of your outfit.  Pair this with a statement necklace and voila you have turned what could have been a boring style into a fresh new colorful look that will turn heads. You can also pull off a more casual look similar to the pic below, the green cardigan is paired with jeans and a chunky belt for a simple style with a splash of color.

Tie it Up

Cardigans are also great styles to wear around the waist.  You can do this with jeans, shorts or even denim skirts.  This is not only a convenience option but you can also create a fun style.  Our Mad About Plaid Cardigan is a great style that works well paired this way.  It is light weight and the plaid combo adds a country chic flair to your outfit.

Over a Printed Dress

If you love to wear bold color dresses but feel you may need to tone it down a bit, a cardigan is a perfect choice.  Choose a basic color cardigan to ground the print and you will then have a perfect combo to wear to the office.  This would also be a great way to style a sundress as well.

Wear it Open

If you want a more casual look, wearing it open is your ‘go to’ style. Open cardigans provide long vertical lines making you appear taller and thinner.  So, if you are looking for a slimming effect this one’s for you.   Pair this with our Criss Cross Strappy Seamless Cami  for an added detail to your outfit.

Pair it with jeans

Cardigans can be dressed up or down and are a true staple in any closet.  Try pairing your cardigans with jeans, graphic tee and a cute wedge heel for the perfect weekend outfit.  Cardigans are very versatile and can easily be thrown into a handbag when not in use. Our Stay With Me Stripe Pattern Cardigan is very versatile as well and pairs well with dark denim or even white denim for the perfect combo.  I love the cheetah print in the below pic, a great way to spice things up with a basic tee.

Now see that wasn't so hard. Cardigan Sweaters can add a bit of fun to your style if you pair it correctly.  Cardigans no longer have to be boring so go ahead and dress them up, dress them down, the possibilities are endless to create your own Sweet Country Style
