Who's Ready for a Porch Party?
Now that Spring is here it is time to think about sprucing up those outdoor spaces. Porches and patios are one of our favorited places to relax when the weather is warmer. There has been a resurgence of homes with porches in the past few years. The number of new U.S. homes built with porches keeps rising. The percentage grew from 42 percent in 1994 to 52 percent in 2004 to 65 percent last year, according to data compiled by the National Association of Home Builders. People around the U.S. are rediscovering their fondness for a classic architectural staple.
We thought we would share inspiration ideas to ensure your porch is the best on the block. Here are a few tips to get you well on your way to porch parties with friends and family.
Warm Welcome
You need to create a space for your porch that that draws you in and says ‘come sit and stay awhile.’ Use throw pillows and comfortable seating that your guest will enjoy. Seating is so important for creating a comfortable space for everyone to sit. Country swings are a staple for many so installing a swing is a perfect way to offer a warm welcome and add a bit of charm and southern hospitality. I bet this will be the most sought after seat on the porch.
Color Me Happy
Bright Colors always make people happy and this is a must have in decorating your outdoor space. Whether you use throw pillows or statement rugs to create a theme in the space, this will bring a sense of cohesiveness and happiness as you entertain guest. I love the bold blue in the pic below. Don't be afraid of color, the bolder the better. Also think about lighting as well, you can decorate with unique lighting or find whimsical lampshades that add addtional color to your porch.
Country Charm
Cushioned wicker is a great way to create an inviting space outdoors. Mix and match materials and fabric to create a soothing vibe in the space. You can use galvanized metal on tables or stools with wood accent pieces throughout to provide a cozier feel. This is a practical yet functional idea and if you have an outdoor fireplace to cozy up to, this furniture setup is perfect for that.
Rustic by the Fire
If you aren’t lucky enough to have a porch to spend your afternoons then you can create your own beautiful space by building a simple patio that includes a fire pit. Choose Adirondack chairs for seating. They are easy and relaxing as you sit around the fire. You can use wood stumps for additional seating or side tables. This would be great for the lake or a cabin with a mountain view. Rustic and charming as you stay cozy by the fire on chilly nights.
Farmhouse Porch
The ideal farmhouse that we all dream of has huge wrap-around porches with comfy furniture and space for swings and church pews to decorate but not everyone has this elaborate space. Sometimes small porches can bring just as much joy, especially if you think about how you can utilize your porch as an extension of your house. You can bring your love of all things farmhouse to your outdoor space. This includes farmhouse storage ideas to keep extra pillows and throws. You can also use trays and caddies while entertaining guest and if you have the space you can hang Farmhouse signs for a bit of character. Mason jar coasters would also be a great addition to your farmhouse inspired porch as you sip an ice cold beverage at your next BBQ.
There are many ways to brighten your outdoor space but one thing is for sure, porches are meant for ‘sittin’ so we hope you set aside some time to relax and enjoy the outdoors and create many memories in Sweet Country Style.
