Decorating with Tobacco Baskets

At Sweet Country Style, we love farmhouse style and all that it has to offer.  From chippy white paint to vintage inspired furniture, we love it all.  There are a few decor trends that we feel makes a farmhouse a home and one of those is the ever so popular tobacco baskets.  These are a great decor option but sometimes it is hard to decide how to use them throughout your home.  That's where we come in.  I wanted to share with you a few ideas to put those tobacco baskets to good use and showcase your farmhouse find like a pro.

Try layering a tobacco basket with a magnolia wreath.  This gives the basket some depth but it also adds a bit of charm to an otherwise plain basket.  These look great in hallways, dining rooms or even kitchens. You can switch up the decor seasonally to give your decor a new look.  Make sure your basket is sized appropriately so that it is portioned correctly on your wall and in the space you plan to use it.  If you have several baskets that are different sizes, try pairing them together to create a larger scale on the wall to add a farmhouse touch to your home.

Over the fireplace is a great place for a tobacco basket especially if you have a large one that will fill the space.  I love how this basket is simple yet it compliments the other darker woods in the neutral colored room.  What a cozy space to have dinner as a family and admire the outdoors at the same time.

Tobacco baskets can also be great fillers in entryways.  Use the baskets to fill the bottom of the table and layer it with olive buckets to complete your farmhouse look.  These baskets are the perfect shape to be tucked away or you could even set them on top of the table to change up the look. This is the perfect spot to use different size baskets and even different basket colors.

A Farmhouse is known for the large wrap around porch and the one in this pic is no different.  Create a quaint sitting area where friends and family can come and gather.  This tobacco basket perched on the side of the wall paired with the rocking chairs, light blue dresser and flowers, creates a relaxing environment to enjoy the company of others.  This decor provides great curb appeal for your country home.

Tobacco baskets also work well on top of shelving.  This gives the shelf more height in the room and also helps to fill the space on top.  Smaller baskets can be used on the shelving layered with other farmhouse finds you have lying around.  The neutral color palette is grounded by the darker woods in the baskets.  This is trully an old world feel with a bit of rustic charm.

Tobacco baskets have grown in popularity over the years and as you can see finding space for them is easy.  Remember that farmhouse style is all about simple layers of beautiful home decor.  Mix and match items such as wreaths, statement signs or flowers with your tobacco basket for a style all your own.
